What We’re Reading

Our love of the written word has driven us to amass quite a nice collection of both fiction and nonfiction in our home library. Library seems too grand a word for the room we’ve covered with shelves often piled two-deep with as many books as we can fit, but still, no other word works, so library it is.  We’re also fortunate to have quite a number of books we have not read on hand. I used to feel guilty about buying so many books when I hadn’t read what I already had. Then watching an interview with Harlan Ellison, I realized I had nothing to feel guilty about. He said, “Who wants a library full of books you’ve already read?” I can’t find that interview now, but although I saw it years ago, that particular quote stayed with me.

We enjoy our books in many forms as well. While we both have Kindles, we prefer the physical form of any book and often purchase a book in more than one form. We’re both also very fond of audiobooks and dramatized versions of books. Our Audible library has over 1,000 books right now. I (T) listen to books every night to fall asleep. This is particularly comforting to me as my fondest childhood memories are of my mother reading to me at bedtime.

We’re looking forward to sharing with you our reading and listening gems. Perhaps you’ll share yours with us, too.
