Thank you!

First, I’d like to say a deep-felt THANK YOU to Debbie at Debbie Dey WRITES for nominating me for a Blogger Recognition Award. This is especially cool since Debbie is herself a very accomplished writer. I especially want to send you to “Hook ’em with a Quote” where Debbie talks about moving in the freelance writing. I found it very inspirational, and I think you will, too!

The Story of Whimsy…

I started Spontaneous Whimsy because I’m a closet comedian. I’m funny. Seriously. I also blog at Socrates Underground on education topics, but I have to be all “Stand up straight” and “At least try to look serious” over there.  So shortly after, I created Whimsy and have dragged my husband along with me. (He’s a good writer, too.) The motivation for both blogs was that I realized a few years ago that I constantly have ideas running through my head, ideas that I’d like to share. And I remembered that I love to write.  I truly love to write. Looking for that perfect word, finding the rhythm in the language, I love it. Voilà. Blogging!

My Advice…

First, if you’re thinking about blogging, do it. I mulled over the idea for what had to be at least a year, trying to feel “ready.” You can’t pre-plan your blog. It’s an organic process. You need some idea of where you’re going, but from there… Take the courses offered by WordPress! I took Blogging 101 twice. Now, I’m taking Writing 101. (My students get a kick out of that.) Those classes are invaluable–and free. How’s that for value? Finally, engage with the community. This is where I fall shortest. It takes lots of time, but it’s worth it. You will learn so much from your fellow bloggers. You will get ideas, make friends, and find your own niche.

Again, thank you, Debbie!

Below are my own nominees for the Blogging Recognition Award, along with a copy of THE RULES.

And the Nominees Are… (in no order whatsoever!)

La Duchesse d’Erat– Don’t worry! you don’t have to read French to enjoy this fun and varied site!

Ivan Proust– This is a very eclectic site that I know you can find something interesting on.

Sincerely, Hil– This is a site about life. You’ll find some great writing as well as images and some  good practical advice here.

A cooking pot and twisted tales– I love this site for Jacqueline’s passion. She’s a Nigerian woman, and I enjoy glimpsing her world.

Sarah’s Attic of Treasures– Sarah is the most lovely woman. Her genuine kindness shows through on her site and in her conversations with her readers. Just go. You’ll be glad you did.

The Unstoppable Optimist– Well, I think the title says it all. This is a good site to go to for a pick-me-up.

Cathy Lynn Brooks– She is telling her daughter’s story here. What story? Well, I’ll let her tell you.

Dragonandrose– You’ll find good insight into life with epilepsy here, but so, so much more.

CreatyveBooks– Sanovia at Creatyvebooks describes herself as “a shy girl who loves books.” She may be shy, but she’s putting herself out there in a fantastic way! She’s reviewing some really interesting books that you may not hear about anywhere else.

Plane– The tagline on this one reads “finding my intersection between dreams and reality” and when you visit, I think you’ll find it very apt.

Scribbles and Shakespeare– Well, it’s about acting, writing, and Shakespeare, but you probably already figured that out.
Views from Around the Corner– This is another blog about a little of everything; the writing is great, and it’s worth your time.
The AnonymouSTalker– I love this site! I’m not great at keeping up with my feeds, but this is one I do my best on! Seriously. Go. now.
Musings and Adventures– This is a travel blog, but not really because it’s so much more!
Voyager of Freedom– This is just a well-written and interesting blog. Check it out!

  1. I really loved your advice! It’s really something that you can’t pre plan, you just have to see how it goes. Have an idea and go with it. And if you’re thinking about blogging, just do it. Love that. It took me years to come to terms with that. I came up with enough excuses that I eventually ran out of them and took the leap 😉 Thanks (again) for the nomination!
